the men procured by Mr Stanley

15th I have prepared the loads for the men
and gave each five dotis to act as carriers
For the extra loads we shall get Banyamwezi
pagazi.
16th favourable reports of the results of
treating jungle fever by hipposulphat of
soda come from India - quicker cures
than with quinine - the native remedy

18th go over to say Good by to Sultan bin Ali & to
others and leave goods for the return journey

All those available are collected for the
war with Mirambo - I have got some but
still need seven - one of the soldiers was
firing off cartridges contrary to orders

headman he gave him a severe cut on the
head 2 inches long & deep and a shot
in the forearm - called all hands and
made each give him a beating - some were
35too gentle and I laid my stick on their backs
